The Ending of the Former Universe

138The Darks came to their end a short while before that universe drew inward.

142The alien civilizations were erased, the victors and the vanquished alike.

143The whole physical history of that universe, every deed and every ruin, was erased, and its time was unmade.

144The Great Before returned.

145The cycle ended, yet Rollo remained.

146Now mark three continuities, and do not confuse them.

147First: Rollo remained, because Rollo does not depend upon any universe for his being.

148Second: Malk passed through, by his singular bond with Rollo and by the time that belongs to Rollo.

149Third: Daeus passed through, because Daeus is immortal.

150Therefore Daeus is not a tale of a vanished world.

151Daeus is present in this universe.

152Daeus continues to corrupt.

153And the only known means of defeating him at the last is this: that he be imprisoned within the Chasm.

154And know a fourth thing, which is not a being: the Gift of Witchcraft did not perish. Namaya was erased and Veyr was erased, but the Gift survived.
